Excellence and Wine Quality

Honoring Each Vintage

WHO WE ARE

VerSer was born from a family story and a deep bond with the hills of Serrapetrona.

The project's roots lie in the stories and early experiments in the cellar with Grandpa Peppe, but it was with his grandson Matteo—a winemaker and oenologist—that the dream took shape. Although far from the Marche region during his childhood, Matteo spent long periods there, absorbing the stories, aromas, and traditions that fueled his passion for grapevines and wine. The first to study in depth the characteristics of Vernaccia Nera and the winemaking techniques best suited to enhancing its potential, Matteo completed a lengthy course of studies in viticulture and oenology in Milan, Asti, and Bordeaux. Today, he has chosen to transform his experience into a concrete project, bringing his skills and vision back to this region.

The name VerSer comes from the union of “Ver” of Vernaccia and “Ser” of Serrapetrona, but it is also a reference to the French verb "verser" which means to pour.

Our philosophy is built on respect for nature and an unwavering commitment to quality. We embrace a minimal-intervention approach, stepping into the vineyard and cellar only when needed, so the grapes can freely express the essence of their variety, the land, and the vintage. We vinify Vernaccia Nera and Pecorino as single varietals, guiding the grapes with careful, precise interventions to highlight their natural qualities without altering them, so that each wine tells an authentic story of both the grape and the vintage.

VerSer is this: wines shaped by dedication, expertise, and passion, wines that evoke emotion and bring out the elegance of Serrapetrona’s terroir.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Low-impact vineyard management

We manage our vineyards with a minimal-impact approach: the use of pesticides and fertilizers is limited to what is strictly necessary, thanks to constant monitoring of agro-environmental data. We maintain grass cover and wildflowers to support bees, and we regularly analyze their pollen quality as an indicator of ecosystem health.

Single-varietal winemaking and respect for the vintage

In the cellar, we work with precision and respect, calibrating every winemaking decision to sustain the vintage without making the wines uniform. We use exclusively Vernaccia Nera and Pecorino, without blending with other varieties, thus maximizing their characteristics. Our clay soil contributes to the development of complexity and aromatic nuances, which intertwine with the natural variations of each vintage in aromas, flavors, and structure. This approach makes each vintage unique and enhances the pleasure of vertical tastings and comparisons of the wines.

Minimal use

of sulphites

We keep sulfites to a minimum, using natural antioxidants during winemaking and protecting our wines with argon during aging. This pure and safe food-grade gas allows us to best preserve their quality and fragrance without resorting to high doses of sulfites. Only at bottling we add a small amount of sulfites, essential to ensure freshness, stability, and perfect preservation even after opening.

Innovative winemaking techniques

Our winery is designed to be managed by a single person, combining modern winemaking protocols with advanced technology. Equipment such as a flotation system, peristaltic pumps, and argon protection systems allow us to precisely monitor every stage of winemaking, preserving the quality, freshness, and unique characteristics of each wine.

CELLAR

Our winery is a newly designed facility that combines functionality and aesthetics, blending harmoniously into the rolling hills of Carpignano. On the lower level, the winemaking area houses 18 stainless steel tanks of varying capacities, offering flexible winemaking options and ensuring impeccable sanitation—essential for producing high-quality wines. Grapes are processed with machinery designed to minimize stress, while noble gases such as nitrogen and argon preserve the aromatic freshness of our white and rosé wines.

Constant temperature control, maintained by the refrigeration system, guarantees precision and care at every stage of production. Upstairs, the drying room is dedicated to Vernaccia Nera: a space that takes advantage of the valley’s natural airflow and a panoramic terrace for sun-drying, enhancing the wines’ complexity and intensity. The facility is completed by a small in-house laboratory, enabling rigorous monitoring from grape to bottle.

VINEYARDS

Our vineyards are located on the hills of Macerata, in Carpignano, within the municipality of San Severino Marche. This area lies at the heart of a region ideally suited for fine wine production, between 320 and 370 metres above sea level.

Spanning roughly three hectares, we cultivate only Vernaccia Nera and Pecorino, the result of careful studies on the interplay between grape variety and terroir. Every stage from vineyard design to daily management, is overseen by us, using systems designed for modern and sustainable viticulture.

Campo Nord, with 3,300 Vernaccia Nera plants, was chosen to preserve freshness and acidity, yielding elegant and harmonious wines. The lower section of Campo Nord hosts 2,000 Pecorino plants, benefiting from wide temperature variations and clay-rich soils that enhance the grape’s complex aromas.

Campo Sud is the largest vineyard, with 6,000 Vernaccia Nera plants exposed to sunlight from dawn to sunset. From this field come rich, intense musts, ideal for producing structured reds and straw wines with exceptional character.
